Up Your Game
Experienced students and craftsmen looking to further their skills and experience will benefit from the opportunity to meet weekly for advanced instruction while working on personal designs. Faceted stone setting will be a primary focus, but several other techniques will be introduced mostly driven by student designs.
Students who have completed the Beginning Class and would like to further their study in jewelry and metalsmithing may participate in the Guided Studio option at The STU. This option affords more flexibility in scheduling as it is offered weekly and in three hour time blocks, similar to the Beginning Class, but is scheduled by calendar month. With this, students may participate in an ongoing course of study for a duration of choice. Experienced craftsmen that have gained basic skills elsewhere are welcome to attend, as well, per instructor’s discretion. If there is an open bench available in a given month, there can be a prorated fee calculated less than the monthly tuition. Just ask!
Guided Studio offers instruction, as well as some materials, however, the techniques and skills presented are heavily outlined by the projects in which the attending students are creating. Faceted gemstone setting is a highlight of this level which everyone will learn, as well as techniques in decorative uses of gemstones and pearls for design emphasis such as rosary chain links and articulated drop accents. There will also be a deeper dive into the findings available to jewelers for more professional project completion. Guided Studio will also allow those who have attended the Casting Class to create both fabricated and/ or cast designs.
Due to the intimate class size, please reach out if a given month is full for your preferred time of day, so that more class times may be offered based on levels of interest. Private and semi-private instruction is always an alternative, and can be tailored to an allotted time frame, desired skill set, or a specific project. I’m always happy to discuss the options to providing the instruction and tools you need to make the pieces you’ve envisioned!
