The STU’s main instructional room consists of four jeweler’s benches, each equipped with the following:
- Flex-shaft with standard handpiece and pedal rheostat,
- Propane/Oxygen soldering torch with dual-stage regulators,
- Articulated magnifying lamp,
- GRS Benchmate System for bench pin, soldering station, and stone setting accessories,
- Adjustable pneumatic chair,
- Variety of hand tools including but not limited to:
- Pliers
- Cutters
- Saw frame and blades
- Ring file
- Needle files
- Sanding sticks
- Hammer and mallet
- Ring mandrel
- Measuring devices
- Scissors and snips
- Writing/ marking instruments
- Hand vice
- Soldering pick
- Burnisher and rocker
- Burs and polishing wheels
The general shop room is the location of the instructor’s bench and private instruction bench, which has even more tools and equipment than the student benches. It also holds additional equipment such as:
- Dual-sided polishing and grinding lathe
- Ultrasonic cleaner
- Vacuum table/ kiln/ centrifuge for casting
- Anvil vice with draw plates and forming stakes
- Lapidary saw
